Cross-Border Trading in CEE

At Nomad, we operate as a cross-border energy trader with a strong presence in Central and Eastern Europe. We are active members of Germany’s EEX (European Energy Exchange) as a trader of derivatives and active members with physical deliveries at Hungary’s HUPX (Hungarian Power Exchange) — two of Europe’s most important and liquid markets at the core of the continent’s energy trading landscape.

Transmission Rights & Regional Access

To ensure the physical delivery of energy outside Bulgaria, Nomad is registered with the Joint Allocation Office (JAO) — the European platform for trading cross-border transmission rights. Through annual, monthly, and daily capacity auctions, we secure reliable electricity flow corridors between Bulgaria, neighboring countries, and Central and Eastern Europe.
Nomad maintains year-round transmission capacities across most CEE countries where we hold trading licenses, guaranteeing physical access to spot markets and ensuring uninterrupted supply for our international counterparties.

Expertise in Energy Products Hedging

Our market expertise extends to financial risk management. By actively trading on the EEX derivatives exchange, we hedge against electricity price volatility, reducing risk and ensuring greater predictability for our partners. Derivative contracts allow us to reduce the risk, to ensure the flow between our producers and customers have a predictable price and strengthen our footprint in Europe’s competitive energy landscape.

Balancing Group Coordination

Nomad is a Balancing Group Coordinator (BGC). This designation empowers us to manage system imbalances in real time, compensating for under- or overproduction of electricity. By leveraging our large and diversified energy portfolio, we contribute to grid stability and smooth system operation.
This role is especially critical for the integration of renewable energy sources, where our forecasting, control, and balancing services support producers under long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). In doing so, we ensure reliable electricity delivery for industrial, commercial, and wholesale clients at competitive price.
